Guide to Becoming a Better Horse Jumper

There are various types of exercises that horse riders take part to improve their show jumping performance. The following are the horse jumping tips that one needs to consider when they want to engage in the activity.

When you want to be a great horse jumper; you first need to look for a coach or instructor who will be guiding you through the whole process. The coach will assist you in getting the right seat for different gaits ranging from walk to hand gallop. In addition, riders need always to remember to shorten their stirrups one hole or two before jumping, since this will enable them to balance their body weight and stay over your horse’s center of balance throughout the jump. Moreover, riders need to look straight ahead over the fence when riding the horse if they want to jump over the fence, failure to do so will affect the horse’s balance hence making it not to jump as planned.

During jumping, it is vital for riders to position their hands slightly forward when they are about to approach a fence, this will enable them to avoid hitting the horse during impact. For riders who find it difficult to stay balanced while riding the horse, they can use a neck strap, the strap prevents the rider from bouncing around and falling. Furthermore, in order to be in control of the horse, you can use a whip especially when the horse seems to run out of the track, strike the whip on the side that the horse seems to be running out of the track; however, caution needs to be taken when using the whip since when you use too much pressure, you can harm the horse, alternatively, you can use a whip that is less painful.

When you are about to approach a fence, it is vital that you be confident that you and the horse will jump over, failure to do so will make the horse think that you are too sacred hence making it not to jump as well. While training, ensure that you have control over the horse, do not allow the horse to rush when moving or jumping, let him do things as you have instructed him.

Furthermore, you need to be consistent with your riding style, do not change the way you ride regardless of the type or size of the fence you are approaching. In addition, it is essential to train your horse in different areas, training the horse on the same spot over and over will make him get bored hence refusing to jump over it.
